# Canadian Gov't to raise taxes on recordable media

I'm sure many people have seen this on [Slashdot](http://slashdot.org/article.pl?sid=02/03/12/0243237), but I think this needs as much exposure as it can get.   
  
[Here is a PDF](http://www.cb-cda.gc.ca/tariffs/proposed/c09032002-b.pdf) describing the atrocity. Basically we're looking at $1.23 for all CD-RWs, $2.27 for all DVD-Rs, and a completely ridiculous $21/Gig tax on portable MP3 players. That's $420 for a [Nomad](http://www.americas.creative.com/products/product.asp?product=126&category=2&maincategory=2)! WTF?!
