# Smoking in the HRM

As many people know (and relish!) a new bill concerning smoking in public places has come into effect as of 01 Jan 2003. [This website](http://www.region.halifax.ns.ca/boardscom/smoking/), has all the information you should need about these new regulations, including [the bill itself](http://www.region.halifax.ns.ca/legislation/by-laws/HRM/bls200.pdf).   
  
The thing I find the most interesting are the fines ($200 for an individual or $500 for a corporation), and the fact that "[any member of the public can report their concerns to the HRM By-law enforcement office at 490-4000](http://www.region.halifax.ns.ca/boardscom/smoking/reporting.html)".
